three years ago today…………

………..I was rushed to the ER in the middle of the night, with a massive stroke. My husband was told that night that I probably was going to die. I was transfered to another hospital that had better imaging machines, and a brain surgeon on call who performed major brain surgery on me. After weeks in the hospital and years of recovery – here I am! I was told that my “recovery would be a process”. It, indeed, has been. Although my husband and I agree we would not wish this process on anyone else in the world, we feel the journey we have taken together has been a true miracle and blessing in many ways. Our true friends, relatives, and even strangers have made this miracle possible. THANK YOU to all my “angels on earth”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Shary

    Hi Shary,

My wife, Jennifer, a 33 years of age sufferred a rare hemorrhagic stroke on March 12, 2009. She was in the hospital for 7 months. Jennifer came home on October 6, 2009. I’m looking for advice on the Tailwind device. I looked at the self test questions to see if she’s a candidate, but I really don’t think we can answer “yes” to either of the two questions at this time. She can squeeze with her hand on command……. but really no movement from the shoulder to the elbow. Is there anyone I can contact about this device or go to any trials.

I enjoy reading your blogs. Keep up the good recovery.
    Greg

    • Hey Greg! Thank you so much for commenting on the blog website. First, I must say how sorry I am that your wife, Jennifer, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. I, too, had the same kind of stroke. If you live in the Orlando, Florida, area, I would welcome you and your wife to come vist my tailwind that I have in my home. If that is not possible, I would suggest you contact the president of the company, to answer your specific questions. Her name is Kris Appel. She is a lovely woman, whom I ‘m sure would be able to answer all of your specific questions. The phone number is on the website.(410-522-8709) I will write Kris immediately and tell her to expect a call from you soon, Greg.

Please feel free to contact me at the above listed email address, should you need anything else at all.

Good luck to you both! Believe me, my husband and I know the battle the two of you have fought!Sincerely, Shary

Hi Shary, we actually live in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. If we lived closer to Orlando I would welcome your invite. I talked to Kris Appel today…………. she was very kind. I was just trying to figure out if my wife is ready for Tailwind. I would like to receive a demo first………. maybe we could drive to Baltimore. I would like to talk to you sometime to see how your recovery has gone over the past three years. Maybe you could provide some insight on what we can expect. You take care. Greg

        • Hey again, Greg! You asked about what you can expect now from stroke recovery. Greg, it’s tough; I cannot lie to you. I am sure your wife’s recovery is dependent on several factors, such as: what areas of the brain were effected?; what attitude both you and she have?; how motivated is she to getting better? My own personal situation is that I have been blessed with the greatest support system you could imagine. It starts with my husband’s devotion and love to me. My own motivation to get better was ignited by trying to “let him off the hook” from doing all the things he once had to do for me. It is important for you to understand that stroke recovery is not necessarily linear. I now take care of myself 100% during the days. I also am driving my own new little car everywhere completely alone.

Greg, how independent is your wife – in her personal care and attitude? Please feel free to ask me anything. Sincerely, Shary

i had a stroke a few years ago. most of the therapists and cna’s in the nursing homes said my arm was useless so therapy was a joke. i refuse to give up. this morning i saw the machine and the lady went back to painting again. i still feel there is hope. if anyone knows the price of this machine, please post the amount.
